This craft was needed for several reasons. Carpenters build shelters for people to live in, chairs, tables, and beds for people to sit on, eat on, and sleep on. Carpenters also build cabinets and dressers.
To make a chair first you need to create a design to make it. Next you need to decide what kind of wood you want to use. Then you measure and cut the wood according to your design. You need to cut the legs, seat, and back of the chair. Then glue or nail it together. Make sure the chair is level. You now have a chair. Carpenters don't usually carve fancy designs, but could if they wanted to.
